General Atomics is perhaps best known for its work in designing and manufacturing the Predator Drone, the company also provides a wide range of research and development including laser weapons, space and satellite systems as well as pioneering the development of the world’s first fusion reactor.
In October of 2019, the company was required to pay over $900,000 to over 1,000 employees in its California based aeronautical division. The WHD ruled General Atomics had violated the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act (SCA) by not paying it’s workers the appropriate prevailing wage rate or providing the required health and welfare fringe benefits required under SCA covered contracts.
The violations took place on two of the company’s contracts with the U.S. Army. According to the WHD: “The investigation focused originally on aircraft mechanics working in Adelanto, California, but expanded to all positions nationwide that provided services on either contract.”
